Wedding Planners

Wedding Planners can make planning your wedding easy and stress-free (or less stessful), or not. When looking for a Wedding Planner, be sure to research the Planner/Company thoroughly. Ask a lot of questions:
* How many weddings have you planned?
* What is your training/background?
* How many cell phones do you have? (Believe it or not, there are wedding planners not reachable by phone)!
* Can I speak with two or three of your Brides (for references)?

Most importantly, make sure you are both clear what services the planner with be providing and what all the fees total. It goes without saying, follow your gut, and hire someone you like! Your wedding planner should be your best friend on the day of your wedding. And for help with your head-set, Bridal Coaching is available for you!

Formal Attire

Formal attire means long dresses for the women and tuxes for the men. Most of all, remember, you are not the Bride -- it is her day -- so dress in good taste, and not in white!

NBC Today Show Wedding Contest

NBC changes rules to allow gay `Today' wedding

After a meeting with gay and lesbian activists on Thursday, NBC's "Today" show said it is changing the rules for its annual wedding contest to allow same-sex couples to apply for a ceremony conducted on morning TV.

NBC extended the deadline for applications until Monday. Already thousands of couples have expressed interest in the on-air wedding, which the top-rated morning show has sponsored for a decade, a spokeswoman said.

"We're thrilled that `Today' show's `Modern Wedding Contest' now recognizes what most fair-minded Americans have already concluded — a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay," said Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Viewers plan every aspect of the wedding, from the cake to the clothing styles of attendants. NBC picks four couples from thousands of applicants, and viewers vote on which of those couples will participate.

The Best Man

The best man is usually the Groom's best friend or brother. Read on for some history of the position:

The tradition of a best man has its origin with the Germanic Goths, when it was customary and preferable for a man to marry a woman from within his own community. When women came into short supply "locally," eligible bachelors would have to seek out and capture a bride from a neighboring community. As you might guess, this was not a one-person operation, and so the future bridegroom would be accompanied by a male companion who would help. Our custom of the best man is a throwback to that two-man, strong-armed tactic, for, of course the future groom would select only the best man he knew to come along for such an important task.

The role of the best man evolved. By 200 A.D. his task was still more than just safeguarding the ring. There remained a real threat that the bride's family would attempt to forcibly obtain her return, so the best man remained at the groom's side throughout the marriage ceremony, alert and well-armed. He continued his duties after the ceremony by standing guard as sentry outside the newlywed's home. Much of this is German folklore, but is not without written documentation and physical artifacts. We have records that indicate that beneath the altars of many churches of early peoples (the Huns, Goths, Visigoths, and Vandals) there lay an arsenal of clubs, knives, and spears. The indication is that these were there to protect the groom from possible attack by the bride's family in an attempt to recapture her

Weddings Trump All!

In some cultures almost nothing stops a wedding. The joining of two souls is considered so important, that a wedding trumps all. In Santiago, Chile, on Saturday, February 27, hours after a devastating 8.8 earthquake had battered the country, one bride emerged from a limo and ascended the steps of la Catedral Metropolitana to get married. Her wedding would go on, an afirmation of life itself!

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

The Weddng Must Go On!

From Time (&CNN)Online 3/1/10

It is a bright, summery Saturday morning in Santiago, and at the Catedral Metropolitana de Santiago, the groom is becoming nervous. Less than 12 hours beforehand, the strongest earthquake in a generation rocked the Chilean capital, and all morning local radio stations have carried news that although the city's modern structures had emerged largely unscathed from the tremor, Santiago's sacred spaces had not fared as well. A few blocks away, the bell tower at Divina Providencia, a community church, had collapsed. But in the Plaza de Armas, the 18th century Catedral Metropolitana has fared much better. A few fresh pockmarks left a dandruff-like ring of debris around the base, but after what seemed like hours, the police deemed the structure safe. The groom ducked inside as the limousine pulled up, and the bride moved like a brilliant white swan through the square. Her father waited in front of the police tape that lay crumpled near the entrance. He took her hand. Together, they stepped over the confetti of police tape and rubble, down the aisle.

When you get stressed over your wedding planning, think of this Bride and Relax.
